Daniel has been working for Lady Roselyn, serving her as her butler since last spring.Lady Roselyn was head of the Pure Alliance, a group, a group of shifters who can change the shape of their bodies. Daniel could only change his hands into flames. Lady Roselyn could change herself from a female to a make if she wanted to, so she could investigate a murder for weeks now. Daniel has been trying to shift his whole body. Daniel was in the alliance  and now could change all of himself to fire. He would rather steal but the first rule of the alliance was to hold a respectable job. It was not wanted that the people in the alliance use their talents and could expose the talents to the whole world. After Lady Roselyn married Daniel tried to resign several times from the alliance but Lady Roselyn only asked for one more week. This had been going on for months. With every day Daniel grew lonelier and more disillusioned about what he was to do with his life. Two decades after being an orphan and growing up in a workhouse, he wondered now if he was any better off. Daniel had been taken in by a man, Daniel had tried to pick his pocket . he had three happy years with the Trentons they even gave Daniel their last name. They had taught Daniel how to read and write and add numbers. But then they died. Then Daniel was back in the workhouse but he never forgot what they had taught him. Since Mr Trenton’s help Daniel had been honor bound to assist any who needed his help. Especially this angel in white even if she risked her life for a kitten. Daniel told faith he was not a gentleman, he was a servant, a thief or a blackguard depending on his mood. Faith’s parents had waited two years for faith to find someone to marry now she was going to be in an arranged marriage . When Faith refuses the match Faith is kidnapped to be taken to Grethna Green. Luckily for Gaith Daniel was there.

I liked the twist of this story a Cinderella type person is a male - Daniel. There is some going back and forth.I didn’t really like but got past it.I should have read the first book first that would have pulled everything together.I love the characters especially daniel and faith and all the ins and outs they go through. I recommend.
