Alexis/Lexy is an elementary school nurse She is packing to go to Whisper Creek ranch at the pushing of her younger sister - Katie. Lexy got a note from her fiance Tristan breaking off their engagement two weeks before their wedding. Lexy feels like old reliable or second best. Lexy was the reliable one like when her father left Lexy was the one her mother turned to. Lexy’s mom is a hypochondriac and Lexy is her rock. Lexy is trying to change herself and not be boring and try to win Mark back. Gunner is working toward getting his own ranch and working with broken , hard to handle horses. Gunner feels he had found his home. In the past he traveled from Army base to Army base with his mom Gunner was Mr. July on the calendar ranch. Gunner and Lexy develop a strong friendship There is attraction there but Gunner and Lexy are both long term relationship type people not just a summer fling. But as time goes on Lexy and Gunner feelings surpasses friendship . Gunner is determined to show Lexy she is lucky just to be herself. Gunner has to convince Lexy to take a chance on them.
I liked this story a lot. It was a sweet read and had a good plot. I laughed out loud at times which is always good while reading. At times I also choked up while reading this story.I did however feel the author was trying to hard in the middle of the story by referring to other couples that had went to the same things several times. Otherwise I did really enjoy this story. I loved the characters and the ins and outs of the story and I recommend.
