Great Story and Characters

Colliding Hearts - Eva Chase

Jeremy Keane doesn't let himself get too attached to anything. After all, a single slip of his telekinetic ability can send him on the run. So when he uses his power to save a stranger's life, he knows better than to stick around, even if one look into her big brown eyes makes all his defenses melt. If only she weren't so damned persistent. Grace Trevell knows she's spent too long reeling from her mother's abandonment and her grandmother's death. It's time to make new friends, fall in love, and build a true home for herself. So when a gorgeous guy risks his life to save hers, she's not letting him just walk away. But Jeremy is keeping secrets beyond anything she could imagine.

I really liked this story. I liked following the story of Grace and Jeremy. I especially like the instant pull he seemed to feel for her that causes this change in his life and priorities. I can’t wait to read the next story in this series.

Claimed by Gods - Eva Chase

I thought I'd survived everything life could throw at me. All I wanted was to keep my distance from the criminals I work for and get my little brother out of the hell that is our mother's house. Then I died and woke up to four stunningly hot gods telling me I'm now a valkyrie. Sly, sharp Loki. Jovial but ferocious Thor. Dreamily compassionate Baldur. Grim and secretive Hod. They all have something to teach me. And around them, my walls start to crack. But the gods didn't summon me just for kicks. Their king is missing, and they need me to find him. The first three valkyries they sent on the job never made it back. More power is awakening in me than I could ever have imagined—and the gods' enemies are more devious than even they knew. It's going to take every trick in the book for me to save myself, my brother, and these divine men who're getting under my skin in the most alluring way. I'm Aria Watson, and Valhalla ain't seen nothing yet.
This book has the underlying plot of a reverse harem, a genre that seems to be popping up more and more, but the premise caught my attention so I thought I’d give it a try. I Unlike Roman and Greek mythology, I’m not too familiar with Norse mythology, with the exception of what I’ve seen in Marvel movies, so when the descriptions of Thor and Loki occur, I couldn’t help compare them to the actors that play those characters in the movies (as well as hear their voices throughout the book). There were a few small things that annoyed me in the story, but overall I really enjoyed it and can’t wait to read the other two parts. After reading another book by this author, I think I may have found a new favorite author!

Decent Book

The Duke with the Dragon Tattoo - Kerrigan Byrne

Lorelei will never forget the night she rescued the broken dark angel in the woods, a devilishly handsome man who haunts her dreams to this day. Crippled as a child, she devoted herself to healing the poor tortured man. And when he left, he took a piece of her heart with him. Now, after all these years, The Rook has returned. Like a phantom, he sweeps back into her life and avenges those who wronged her. But can she trust a man who’s been branded a rebel, a thief, and a killer? And can she trust herself to resist him when he takes her in his arms?

This story starts at the beginning of the Rook’s tragic life. The reader is given the pieces to the Rook’s life that is taken from him. The entire story, as it unravels, is really about all of the horrors the Rook has went through and what he goes through to get back to the angel that saved him early on. My one complaint is that it seemed like the author had to find every possible bad thing that could happen to the Rook and make it happen, not to mention the crappy life that Lorelei had. This has happened in other books that I’ve read by this author and it tends to bring down the books just a little for me.

The Duke of Desire - Darcy Burke

Ten years ago Ivy Breckenridge’s life was ruined. She had to reinvent herself, and now, after painstakingly making her own way in the world, she’s nearly forgotten the dreams of home and family she’d once nurtured. Until one man peers into her soul and awakens every one of her hidden desires. But no matter how good he makes her feel, she can’t trust him—alone by choice is better than alone by necessity. With a notorious reputation for training married women in the art of passion, Sebastian Westgate, Duke of Clare, is reviled by some and celebrated by others. He doesn’t allow anyone close enough to see past his charming exterior. When Ivy uncovers the man beneath, the seducer is suddenly the seduced. Enraptured by her mind and spirit, he wants more but revealing his darkest secrets is a price he won’t pay.

When I started this book, I really wasn’t sure if I was going to like it or not. The premise (at least the hero’s initial story), was a bit different and I wasn’t sure if it would ruin the book as I generally don’t like books where it’s repeatedly pointed out how promiscuous one of the main characters are. However, I’m glad that Ivy’s character made me want to continue reading. I loved the unraveling of both Sebastian and Ivy. Their journey made it hard for me to put down the book until it was done. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can’t wait to read more from this author.

Stygian - Sherrilyn Kenyon

This was a preview except about Urian of the House of Aricles, not the full book. The except I read was all in the past and were the early years of Urian. While Sherrilyn Kenyon was once my absolute favorite author, I must admit that I haven’t read any of her books in several years due one being seriously disappointing. That’s not to say I haven’t bought them, I have, they are just far down on my TBR list. When I saw this excerpt pop up, I decided it was time to get back to the world she has built that I so loved. Once I started reading the excerpt, I couldn’t put it down. I breezed through it and it made me want to go back and catch back up. I can’t wait to read the rest of the book.

Intense Pleasure (Bound Hearts) - Lora Leigh

After a final bad mission, Summer has left her job and heading back home, where she’s only known as a Southern socialite. Unfortunately, the two men she left with her former life are determined she’s in danger and are following her home.

As with all of this author’s books, there was plenty of steam within the pages of this book. There’s also plenty of story to keep you reading. I love all of her series’ and this one was no exception. I highly recommend if you like this genre.

Breaching the Contract (The Conflict of Interest Series Book 1) - Chantal Fernando

Jaxon Bentley is one of the top criminal lawyers in the country and he had hired Katerina /Kat is an associate at his firm. Getting an associate position at Bentley and Chenning - one of the best law firms around in a highly coveted job. They had never hired and associate right out of law school before Jaxon said he hoped Kat was ready as the job would test all her limits and everything she had studied over the last few years. Then Jaxon handed her a file and said it was the Curtis case and he told Kat he wanted her to learn everything about it, top to bottom because the case would be her baby, and she was going to help him win it. Then Kat thought how how she had just passed the passed the bar and she had a case handed to her. But she was both excited and scared. This was everything Kat had been preparing for. This was not something Kat was going to fail at. Jaxon warned Kat that they did things a little different there. Kat won’t have a secretary so she will be responsible for drafting her own briefs and correspondence.Yvonne was the office secretary can help you with that are urgent. They also had an intern Callin who can help with any legal research she may need done. He added this may seem like a lot of work but now she was working his cases with him and at the moment Jaxon only had a few  clients since they were high profile, Then when she was in the office she asked Jaxon if there was anything else he wanted her to do besides study the case and he said yes research he needed her to do and by some he meant a lot. Kat’s past only fueled Kat’s hunger to succeed. This was where Kat was meant to be and she gets right to work. When Kat was walking back from grabbing a quick sandwich she sees a man’s wallet drop on the floor and Kat picks it up and he is on the phone and she waits till he is done.with his call and taps him . But he ignores her the first time but she taps him a second time with more force and she then she says “ excuse me Sir. and he says yes but not in a friendly way and then Kat says you lost your wallet . He checked his pocket as if he can’t believe his wallet fell out of his pocket and then says thank you and Kat turns to leave and he says “wait - thank you”. Then he explains today was not his day and then he holds out his hand says his name is Tristan . Kat is doing well with Jaxon’s guidance but then he goes on emergence leave as there is a family emergency. Tristan is a widower and has two kids so also a single dad. Kat is left to fend for herself without Jaxon but then Tristan lets her know he us Jaxon’s partner and she is under him until Jaxon returns. Kat is attracted to Tristan and he to her. But he doesn’t want to do anything about the attraction. Tristan doesn’t work with Kat like Jaxon did, He treated her more like an intern than an associate. Having her do coffee runs and even pick his kids up at school and babysit them. Tristan is trying to avoid Kat.

I had mixed feelings on this book .If it were still summer   I would say this was a drama and angst free short read.- about 120 pages. This was a fast paced read. I loved that Kat was sweet to Tristan’s kids. But I do think it was above and beyond Kat’s job description to have to pick up Tristan’s children and babysit them but that is just my opinion and he is a partner. But she did remain professional when given a interns errands. Jaxon actually used her as an associate. It annoyed me that there was drama at the end instead of throughout the book. This was a pretty good read but not a great read so as you can see I had mixed feelings.

Paramnesia: The Deadish Chronicles - Brian Wilkinson

Nora had a deviated septum and snored very loudly . Her brother Tom complained but there was nothing she could do. Nora woke herself up when she snored as she had become so self conscious that she woke up at even a hint of a noise so she wasn’t getting any real sleep. Her best friend Veronica/Vee  She was driving them to school and that was scary as Vee and cars didn’t do well. Then a D J mentions how it had been one year since eighteen year old Isabel Clarke and her prom date Jeremy Velloretto were killed under gruesome and mysterious circumstances. The media was salivating with idea of fresh tragedy so they could turn the deaths into urban legend. It was prom season now. Then it was mentioned there were groups that wanted prom cancelled in all the H Ss in the cityVee wasn’t happy about that. Then  she hits a kid by the school and Nora gets out of the car to check on him Vee starts complaining as if it’s the boys fault but then she sees him and makes a play for him as she helps him up and over his shoulder tels Nora the boy was hers- he was hot. But he called out to Nora and calls to her ‘Whoa slow down Angel’ like he had called her Angel when he opened hi eyes. Then he introduces himself as Andrew Manes and he was new at the school. Veronica had claimed him but he didn’t seem to want her, Andrew wanted Nora. The Revenant was very hungry - too long since her last meal. Needing to feed was important but secrecy trumped food. As to be known would mean you were hunted and killed, yet not to feed meant you starved and died. So she had to sneak meals - so to speak. That was why the Revenant became a paramedic. She specialized in becoming just another body in the crowd. The job was a brilliant idea and she positioned herself in the best possible place to fit her needs,She was called out to attend the dead and dying. No more than normal died under her care but those who did might have a little less to them after she done with them. It fueled her, It made her greater and increased her power. She had to run after the girl who had got away and then they found the boy at her home- the old hotel,Then she had to run and hide , to starve. That would have been bad enough but the Others were angry as she had broken their code. Death, torture, and mutilation were all on the table but forced fasting had won out. She was fairly new to their ways after all . She had to learn. Besides death was what they delivered to the living not each other. So she had to starve for one year. No new souls, no living energy to fight against the endless deep in her body. She withered under the punishment. It grew harder to live under the rules and thumb of the humans but her position as a paramedic was so perfect to feed her. Tonight the Revenant got lucky when a homeless person in the alley was having a heart attack. Nora and Andrew became a couple and are going to prom. The Revenant  causes a car accident and the Revenant gets Andrew but Nora gets away with a small scar. Now Nora can see as well as other dead people like Peepers was forever looking for his long lost love Adelaide. . There is a Deadish Society who want the Revenant dead.Nora tells everyone about the Revenant and seeing dead people especially Andrew. She is sent to a psychiatrist who says she is experiencing paramnesia.

I liked this book but I  believe this more geared to the YA group. I am happy I read this but won't read it again. It was a good book but not great. I did laugh while reading this at times. I choked up at times. It choked me up reading about Nora and Andrew’s ghost discussing the life they can’t have together now. I did like Peepers and felt he added to this book. I loved the ending.  I did feel there were a few too many ghosts. I liked the characters and the ins and outs of this book and I recommend it.

great book and great characters

Shameless - Cherrie Lynn

Meredith/Meri   was on her third beer when the moaning started. Someone on the balcony above her was getting it or about to. Ordinarily Meri would think of herself as a moral person and would have excused herself and left the couple to their pleasure. But her inner moral person was muted thanks to the alcohol. Sexual frustration had turned Meri into a perv. Cameron Moore/Cam was an ever present fantasy. But he was her brother Dane’s lifelong best friend her been the permanent fixture further back then Neri could remember. But she didn't; want to think about Cameron This was supposed to be a fun filled friend-packed vacation on the beach. But Meri felt melancholy. Insomnia was a familiar if unwelcome companion of hers. Meredith was the reason he drunkenly  sought relief as it was her he really wanted. Dane;s little sister ad he would lose Dane who he loved as a brother.

I loved this book. I loved Cam and Meri together. I loved how much of a friend Alyssa was to Meri and always had her back and gave her the strength to go after what she wanted . I loved the ending . I happily found nothing to criticize in this book. I loved the characters and the ins and outs of this book. I highly recommend it.

Loved It!

Mercenary Princess - Setta Jay

Sophia is the pristine princess of a small country, completely under the thumb of her brother and her mother. What they don’t know is she lives a double life as a mercenary, part of a team determined to take down the elite in her circles that get away with murder. When the object of her fantasies since she was a teenager suddenly shows interest in her, her life suddenly becomes much more complicated.

I’m glad I found this author a little over a year ago. I’ve loved everything she’s put out and this book is no exception. Sophia is strong and determined and willing to step away from everything to continue to do the right thing. Viktor is the perfect person to match her determination. I read through the story as quickly as possible and now I’m disappointed because I have to wait for her next book! I absolutely loved it and I highly recommend.

My One True Highlander (No Ordinary Hero) - Suzanne Enoch

Rugged highlander Graeme has one thing on his mind—take a stand against the horrible Englishman Lattimer and he will be rewarded with enough money to be set for life. But when his reckless younger brothers take it one step too far and kidnaps a young woman on her way to see Lattimer, Graeme has to intervene. Unfortunately, trying to protect his brother keeps leading to more and more trouble.

This was a very cute story. There were times when I wanted to yell at Graeme for his assumptions about Marjorie, but I felt a little silly when I was yelling at my tablet and it didn’t change his misconceptions:) The side characters were so engrained into the story that they were just as interesting to follow. I can’t wait to read another book by Suzanne Enoch! I really loved it and highly recommend it.

When Bruce Met Cyn - Lori Foster

Bruce Kelly has spent his life helping people who are down on their luck and helping them get back on track. Cyn Potter is a survivor of a rough childhood and just as rough adulthood. She’s done with men and the one thing they want. Bruce is out to prove to her that he can be trusted and can be an absolute gentleman to prove it. For as opposite as these two are, they just might be perfect for eachother.

I’ve read a number of Lori Foster’s books and enjoyed each of them. The book starts out showing you what Cyn has been through. While I understood the choices she had to make, I just couldn’t get over it enough to enjoy her as a character. Unfortunately it made the book not right for me.

Escaping Reality - Lisa Renee Jones

There was  a plain white envelope with her name on it . taped to the mirror. It hadn’t been there at the ladies room at Manhattan’s Museum of Art when she got there. Amy’s real name had been Lara but it had been changed  This was an charity event . It had been years since Amy had a flashback and she tried to fight it. But Amy is already there. The scent of smoke burns her nose. The sounds of blistering screams shreds Amy’s nerves. All the pain and heartache, the loss of all she had and will never have again threatens to overwhelm Amy. Amy shooves the wrenching memories away. She can’t let this happen in a public place. Not when Amy is certain danger is knocking at her door. Amy hears voices and grabs the envelope and quickly goes into a bathroom stall. The envelope said “ I found you and so can they. Go directly to JFK Airport and do not linger. Locker 111 will have everything you need,” Amy heart thunders as she takes in the signature - a triangle with something written inside. The same symbol on the arm of the stranger who saved Amy’s life and helped her start a new life and who made sure Amy understand that seeing the symbol means Amy was in danger and she had to run. Once again Amy will lose everything. After six years Amy dared to believe she was safe. Deep down Amy knew that wasn’t true. She had ;left her job  two months ago as a research assistant at the central library to work at the museum. Chloe- the only person Amy has allowed to be a friend- asked Amy where she had been. Then Amy remembers everyone near her could also be in danger. She slips out a door and gets a cab and goes to JFK Airport She finds the locker and it has a carry on roller suitcase and a small brown leather tote bag with a large yellow envelope sticking out of it. Then she finds the note there was money in the bank account and more will be put into the account as she needs it until she was fully settled. There was a new social security license, a new license, and passport. There was a complete history to remember and a resume and job history that will check out if looked into. Then the note told her to throw away her cell phone. The new one was registered under her new name and address. There was a plane ticket and the keys to an apartment . Toss all identification and don’t use her bank account or credit cards. Stay away from museums and her first name wouldn’t change and her last name would now be Reynolds. She was going to Denver. She thought she would get as much of ehr money as she could tomorrow out of her account so she has some of her own money.  Then she saw him, he was in a seat facing her. He -Liam-was one hundred percent focused on her. Lara/Amy house burnt to the ground and killed her whole family, the fire was not an accident and her father was the target. But whoever killed her father wanted her dead too. Amy had met Liam at the airport. Liam is a billionaire but he is also an architect. Liam is a man who is used to getting what he wants and he wants Amy. Amy knows this is just what she is suppose to avoid. But the more time Amy spends with Liam the more she wants to stay with Liam.

I couldn’t get into this book. Amy isn't supposed to get close to anyone especially someone that was scoping her out at the airport and wouldn’t take his eyes off her. Why run if she is willing to get so caught up with a stranger? SHe has managed to stay alive by doing what the guardians she has. Just makes no sense to me why not tell Chloe who she really is she let her become a friend. She had given up her whole life twice now all a sudden some strange guy and she is willing to let go of the way she has survived since the fire. Just made no sense to me so no longer enjoyed the book. I am sure others will enjoy this just wasn’t for me.

The Jefferson Rule: How the Founding Fathers Became Infallible and Our Politics Inflexible - David Sehat

Everyone trusted George Washington but not everyone trusted one another. Not everyone trusted in the government created by the Constitution. George Washington used his  first inaugural to soothe anxiety about the new government. The Founders had different ideas.

This was to dry and boring for me. I could get past the first couple of pages but just gave up after that. Just didn’t hold my attention at all. I know someone else will enjoy this. I just didn’t. This just wasn’t for me.

Stripped with the Vampire (Austin Immortals Book 1) - Jax Garren

After Vince was attacked by Vampires and Aztec cult members Vince decided to get a hold of his ex boyfriend Charlie. Vince had known Charlie since he was nine years old Vince had been kicked out of his home when he came out as gay so he went to Charlie to have someplace to stay At nineteen Vince became Charlie’s lover. Charlie is a three hundred year old vampire. Charlie prefers his privacy and minds his own business. Charlie is a closet gay as being gay is frowned upon in the Vampire world. CoVin - the good vampires’ clan would reject and cast Charlie out if they knew he was gay. Charlie had broke up with Vince five years ago when Charlie found out Vince had lied about his job and that he was actually a stripper. But Vince never got over Charlie. Charlie is seen as too human by his peers and they don’t rely on him for anything important.

I had mixed feelings about this book but I did enjoy reading it. But I probably won’t read it again it was a good read just not a great read for me. This is the first time a read a vampire book that had anything against m/m relationships. Often vampires are bisexual in most books at least the ones I have read. I liked the Aztec mythology in this book. I  didn’t know this was a m/m romance but I guess i didn’t read the synapse well enough. However I will say there wasn't an overabundance of sex in this book and I did just skip over those parts. So it was easy for me to read this. I did enjoy both Emmas and Cash’s characters. I liked there was both Vince’s and Charlie’s POV. So I had mixed feelings on this.

Great Story and Characters

Wolf Hunger - Paige Tyler

While attending a boring function, SWAT officer Max Lowry smells another wolf with a scent that he just can’t resist. The fact that it belongs to a beautiful woman with a great personality is a bonus. Unfortunately, she doesn’t seem to know she’s a wolf.

This was pretty quick read. I loved all the interactions between Max and Lana, right from the beginning. Their journey throughout the book was quite an adventure. I enjoyed every minute of it. I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
